About our Carpets

Our company enjoys the benefit of being fully equipped - we have a dye works, a spinning shop, a weaving mill and a coating plant - and so we are in a position to perform all manufacturing steps, starting from the basic fibre right up to the coated finished product.

Mellau carpets are manufacturers of sisal carpets and wool carpets in multiple widths, which include narrow widths in sizes 0.67m, 0.90m, 1.20m, 1.60m, 2m & 4m. All our carpets have a true selvedge making it ideal for runners, rugs and stair carpet, and due to the selvedge the carpet does not have to be bound on the edge to stop it fraying. Mellau use the highest quality sisal from Madagascar, Kenya and Tanzania to produce high quality sisal carpets, runners, rugs & stair carpets.

Sisal is an organic fibre that makes a beautiful, strong floor covering, and works great in high-traffic areas, it is durable and hardwearing and it is also immensely versatile. Sisal is the toughest of all natural fibres, and absorbs the humidity on hot summer days, which helps to cool a room.

No pesticides or chemical fertilisers are used in sisal production and therefore is considered as one of the most

environmentally friendly carpet yarn as it is 100% natural and only takes just three to five years to re-grow. Sisal is the toughest of all natural fibres’ Sisal is the leaf fibre of the plant Agave The sisal fibres are extracted by crushing the pulpy leaves and are then washed, dried and graded before being spun into yarn.

Sisal carpet is durable enough for staircases and attractive as area rugs or wall to wall fitted carpets for offices and other high traffic commercial environment. Mellau produce rugs and runners in bespoke sizes with borders, making it ideal as a church carpet or a church carpet runner

The natural colour of sisal is creamy white, which we at Mellau supply either with or without backing. Our un-backed carpets, runners and rugs are flat woven and can be used as a reversible carpet.
